Having a morning cuppa and enjoying the view. One of the things we love the most about The Whinney is the relaxing peace and quiet which is a world away from our daily lives. Sharing that feeling with our guests is one of the great joys of letting our home.

Get outside

The Cheviot Hills are right on our doorstep with St Cuthbert’s Way passing at the top of the road. If you don’t fancy hill walking there are plenty of gentle walks in the surrounding countryside and along the stunning coastline which is under an hour away.

This is Fudge. She loves running around the garden at The Whinney, going for long walks, tennis balls, cheese and collecting sticky stuff in her fur. We have always had dogs at The Whinney, we understand they are part of the family so if you want to bring your furry friend, please do.

Originally built in 1850 as two farmworkers cottages, The Whinney was bought by my parents in 2000. It was a complete labour of love to restore the derelict cottages and make one beautiful family home. After 18 happy years here they decided to sell up and we just couldn't bear to let it go. All those memories of kids and dogs, beaches and hills, rain, snow and sunshine and still the promise of more to come. So in June 2018 my husband and I decided that if we could let the house to cover some of the costs it was worth the financial risk of taking it on.

Only 6 months later, what began as a financial necessity has become our own labour of love - working with Lowland Lettings to give our guests the best experience we can and now, also to provide a tranquil space that inspires people to connect with their creativity. Whether it is writing, painting, photography, music or something else, we celebrate you all! To our knowledge, one album has been written here and two books, who knows what could be next?

We love our new journey with The Whinney, come and be part of it.
